Self-Care can lead to a healthier, happier home!

Do you think that self-care is important?

Do you think that you have enough time for self-care?

I grew up thinking that self-care wasn’t important and maybe I didn’t think that I was important enough for taking good care of myself.

The crazy thing is that I thought that my mom took pretty good care of herself…so where did I get this belief that I wasn’t worth it?

Then 15 years ago I met a man and moved all of the way from South Dakota to Pennsylvania. This person has routines and doctor appointments. I was like…what, I am an adult and I don’t even keep up with these things.

Since I have been with him, we have 4 children and I realize more and more that I really need more self-care in my life. For one is to teach my children that it is important to care about yourself and your wellbeing. For another I think that I am a better mom for taking care of myself.

I look back and whenever I had heard that “If mom ain’t happy, then no one is happy” I never really got it.

Now I realize that since I am the only one that can make myself happy then I have to choose to do the things that are going to get me there and one of those is self-care. Meaning that I am taking the best care for myself so that I can care for my family.

It is a crazy realization and one that makes complete sense.

Do I do self-care all of the time? No.

But everyday I try to be better than I was the day before.

So I write down things in my planner of what I can do today or for the rest of the week that I can do just for myself. If a day does come up that I am feeling drained then I know that I have to go and reset myself so I can finish being the best mom that I can possibly be.
